It snowed last night! We didn’t get a lot of snow but we got enough for the kids to scream “SNOW DAY”.
We got suited up and headed outside. We had chickens to open, rabbits to feed and ice to break. Breaking ice has got to be the WORST job ever. The Chicken Chick had a great post on a DIY cookie tin water heater. With freezing temperature in the forecast for a while I have decided to make a few. As soon as we are finished our hot chocolate we are off to the thrift store to find cookie tins!
There are a billion recipes for homemade hot chocolate out there. The boys and I have been trying to create the perfect hot chocolate recipe. There is still room for improvement here but this is what we have so far.
4 cups half and half
1/4 cup (or less) sugar
3 TBSP cocoa
3 TBSP nutella
1/4 cup milk chocolate chips
1 TSP vanilla
a small pinch of sea salt
Heat the milk until just before boiling (do not boil). Add your ingredients and whisk until melted and delicious! Add marshmallows to the top and chocolate sauce if you desire. It is an absolute must around here!
If you are feeling adventurous you can make your own marshmallows. Just following the tutorial on My Healthy Green Family.
Snuggle up in a blanket and enjoy your cup of hot chocolate!
